Get Apprenticeship Ready this Summer

School leavers with an interest in hands-on careers in Engineering and Construction Apprenticeships are invited to take part in an exciting three-day “Apprenticeship Ready” summer course.

This course is designed to help young people gain the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to secure an apprenticeship.

This short, practical programme gives learners a real insight into the expectations of apprenticeships while helping them develop the key skills employers look for.

Across three engaging days, participants will take part in activities that combine teamwork, practical experience, digital learning, and interview preparation.

Day 1: Teamwork and Engineering Experience

Learners will start by building teamwork skills before exploring vocational Engineering and Construction. The day includes a workshop tour and a basic practical activity, giving participants a taste of working in a real technical environment.

Day 2: Digital Skills and Apprenticeship Expectations

Day two focuses on the tools apprentices use in training, including an introduction to digital learning platforms such as OneFile. Students will also hear from a College ambassador about the high expectations of apprenticeships and what it takes to succeed. Participants will complete a short homework task reflecting on why they want to pursue an apprenticeship.

Day 3: Interview Preparation and Career Support

The final day prepares learners for the next step in their journey. Participants will take part in a mock interview and receive information, advice, and guidance (IAG) from a course tutor. They will also complete a practical team-based “pressure test” challenge, followed by a CV and cover letter workshop to help them stand out to employers. Ongoing support will also be provided to help learners secure an apprenticeship after the course.

The Apprenticeship Ready programme is ideal for school leavers who want to explore apprenticeship opportunities, develop employability skills, and gain confidence before applying to employers.
