Half of the new labour market entrants will struggle to find meaningful employment post Covid-19, study predicts.
At RNN Group we see the difference that apprentices and apprenticeships make to hundreds of employers every single day. As part of the RNN Group we see first-hand the difference that new entrants to the labour market make to businesses in our local communities.
This summer over 1,000 students will leave our Colleges. Approximately 400 of those students are seeking an apprenticeship or employment. If the findings of the study are accurate over 200 young people in our local areas will struggle to put the skills they have learned at College to meaningful use.
How You Can Help
RNN Group is asking employers from across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire to make a pledge and offer support to young people including our students from Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College who have completed their studies in summer 2020.
We’re asking employers to pledge their support in a number of different ways, you might pledge to:
- Take on an apprentice when you are able to
- Deliver a talk to current students about your industry
- Set a brief for our learners to work on
- Host a site visit and give our students a glimpse of what the day-to-day looks like in your industry
- Provide work experience or an industry placement to a student
- Sponsor, or participate in, an Employer Academy

If you’ve never considered taking on an apprentice before, now could be the time to do it. Employers who have an established apprenticeship programme report that productivity in the workplace had improved by 76%, whilst 3 out of 4 businesses report that apprenticeships improve the quality of their product or service.
