Lucy’s story
In what ways has your role evolved over the years?
โI didnโt always work with websites or in the Marketing department. I began at Rotherham College as a Text Production Assistant, producing learning materials for tutors in the design and print department within the Central Services Unit. I then became the Web Administrator and soon moved into the network support department, looking after the Rotherham College website (in Dreamweaver back then!) and the staff and student portals.
My role then changed to Group Websites Officer, moving into the marketing department and relocating to Dinnington Campus. I looked after more websites like The Wharncliffe, Inspire Salon, and Bright Skies Day Nursery.
It was a big change when Rotherham College merged with North Notts College, and then a year later with Dearne Valley College. There were lots of different websites to manage, all on different platforms. Iโm now based at North Notts in the marketing team, managing all of the Groupโs external websites, and I really enjoy my job. Iโve been lucky to work with so many lovely people, many of whom Iโm still good friends with today.โ
What changes have you noticed in the organisation during your career?
โThere have been many changes during my time here. Not long after I started at Rotherham College, Rother Valley College (Dinnington Campus) became part of the organisation. The mergers with North Notts and Dearne Valley were also significant changes.
Covid forced us to work from home, but we found new ways of communicating and continuing to work as a team – some of which we still use now because they are more efficient. Before Covid, working from home wasnโt an option. Hybrid working has been a really positive change for me.โ
How has the organisation supported your growth and development?
โI feel lucky to work for an organisation that encourages staff to develop through courses and training. One course that especially helped me was the HNC in Computing, which gave me the knowledge to take on the role I am in now.
When I started at Rotherham College, my background was in graphic design. Working with websites hadnโt even crossed my mind until my then manager encouraged me to apply for the Web Administrator role, thinking Iโd be good at it. Iโm so glad he did!โ
Which achievements are you most proud of during your time here?
โIโm most proud of developing from a Text Production Assistant into a role managing websites, which is a completely different area from what Iโd done before. Through dedication and supported study, I have managed to adapt and thrive in my new role.
During my time at the RNN Group, my work has included developing and managing numerous websites across the organisation. More recently, I have focused on improving accessibility, something I am passionate about and pleased to see positively impacting the user experience.โ
Why would you recommend this organisation as a place to work?
โThe people here are friendly and supportive, which makes it a great place to work. The organisation offers opportunities to grow your knowledge and develop your skills, with management support throughout.
A big plus for me is the RNN Groupโs focus on wellbeing. Staff receive an extra day each year, on top of our holiday entitlement, to do something for our wellbeing. There are also staff wellbeing days during the year. How many people can say youโve had a massage at work? I can!โ
