HTQs: What are they and how can they help?

What are HTQs?

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are a high-quality addition to technical training routes, alongside apprenticeships, and degrees.

They are new and existing Level 4 and 5 qualifications (such as Higher National Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, Diploma Higher Education) and are approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, against employer-led occupational standards.

The first digital HTQs were launched September 2022 and these lead to higher-level occupations such as Network Engineer, Software Developer and Data Analyst.

Health and Science and Construction HTQs are available for teaching from 2023 alongside further qualifications in the digital sector, with a full roll-out of 15 occupational sectors by 2025.

RNN Group now offers HTQs as part of its delivery. Dearne Valley College has got in early with a brand new Health Suite and Animal Management Centre all ready for new learners to the College to take advantage of Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) in health and animal management this term in this new suite of rooms to support the driver for developing higher skills throughout the region.

Employer cost

An employer may choose to pay for an employee to undertake an HTQ. Costs will vary depending on the course and provider. HTQs are classroom based and do not require an in-work placement.

How can they help you develop your career?

HTQs have been developed by employers and awarding bodies to help you – whether you are an individual applying for an HTQ course or are an employer applying for an employee – upskill yourself or your existing employees.

They help you – or your workforce – have the right knowledge, skills and behaviours for you to succeed in your chosen career and develop your employees to ensure your company succeeds.

RNN Group has open days coming up for prospective families and learners in January and March to come along and speak to staff about our courses and programme, enjoy a tour of our facilities and chat with learners.

Our free lunchtime webinar series continues that was launched in 2023, with a session on HTQs on 5th March during National Careers Week online at 1pm if you are unable to visit us.
