Staff Engage in Spirited Bake-Off Showdown at Dearne Valley!
For the past few months, a delightful new tradition has been baking in the halls of Dearne Valley College: The Staff Bake-Off!
What began as a friendly challenge among colleagues has quickly risen to become a highly anticipated event, fostering team spirit and showcasing impressive culinary talents.
Each bake-off morning transformed our refectory into a bustling hub of activity. For a lively half-hour, staff gathered to proudly present their latest creations.
Beyond the thrill of competition, these gatherings provided a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, savour delectable treats, and connect with colleagues from various departments. The air was consistently filled with laughter and animated conversation, forging connections that extended well beyond typical work discussions.ย

Teams went head-to-head in a series of spirited monthly challenges, each round introducing innovative flavours and refined techniques. The stakes, while delightfully delicious, were genuinely high, with only the most impressive bakes advancing. After weeks of mouth-watering competition, the field narrowed to four finale teams:
- The A Team (Motor Vehicle)
- Muffin but Care (Health)
- Supporters (Learning Support, Mentoring, and Safeguarding)
- The Mean Masterbakers (English and Maths)
The moment everyone has been eagerly awaiting has finally arrived: it’s time to reveal the ultimate bake-off champions! We are thrilled to announce that the winners of the Dearne Valley College 2025 Staff Bake-Off are Muffin but Care!
A huge congratulations to the victorious team on their well-deserved win!ย ย
“At Dearne Valley College, we believe the smallest gestures often spark the biggest impact. Our Bake-Off initiative, which brings all of our teams together, from curriculum to support services every Monday morning, has become more than just a celebration of cake.
Over the past 20 weeks, 11 teams have come together to showcase their creativity, their culinary talents and most importantly their sense of fun and unity. This 30-minute gathering has become a powerful symbol of what makes DVC special, a culture of collaboration, kindness and shared purpose.
Congratulations to Muffin but Care and to Jonathan Green for his winning masterpiece in the Pastry Final. A true testament to how something as simple as a slice of pie can help build something as important as a positive college community.”
