A recent event at the College’s Wharncliffe restaurant marked the signing of contracts for £3.5million of grant funding from the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to Rotherham College, part of the RNN Group, by Chris Read Leader of Rotherham Council and member of the LEP Board, Nigel Brewster, Vice-Chair of the Sheffield City Region LEP, and RNN Group Chief Executive, John Connolly.

Working in collaboration with local employers to deliver courses that meet the skills needs of the region’s key employment and growth sectors, the College will offer university-level qualifications in IT, digital design, nursing and health care, business and management, creative arts, construction and engineering, with others still in development.

Chief Executive of the RNN Group, John Connolly said:

“The planning approval and the signing of the funding contract marks a major step in the creation of a fantastic new facility, and a partnership between the RNN Group and the Sheffield City Region LEP that will support vital investment and boost the region’s skills and economic success.”

“We would like to thank the Sheffield City Region LEP for their support and look forward to the start of the construction phase.”

The centre will feature teaching and seminar rooms, café, and library facilities, all dedicated to the College’s university-level students, and will deliver qualifications up to Degree-level, in partnership with regional universities, with expert teaching from industry-experienced tutors.

Deputy Principal of RNN Group, Phil Sayles said of the development:

“We are delighted that plans for Rotherham College’s new university-level centre have been given the go-ahead. This brand new facility will be a ‘game-changer’ for education in Rotherham and we are looking forward to breaking ground on this project in early summer”
