Education in ‘Rotherham is Wonderful’
When you think of a place where opportunity, support, and community come together, Rotherham deserves to be at the top of the list.
From early years to adult education, Rotherham offers a diverse and enriching educational experience that empowers learners of all ages to thrive – academically, personally, and professionally.
A strong start for young learners
Rotherham’s primary and secondary schools are committed to nurturing confident, capable young people. Schools across the borough focus not only on academic achievement but also on wellbeing, creativity, and inclusion. With access to caring staff, modern facilities, and enriched curriculums, students are encouraged to dream big from the very beginning.
College education that opens doors
For learners aged 16-18, Rotherham is home to high-quality further education providers like Rotherham College, Dearne Valley College and Thomas Rotherham College, offering everything from A-levels and T Levels to vocational and technical qualifications. These colleges provide the perfect bridge between school and the world of work or higher education.
What makes college in Rotherham truly special is the personal approach – students are treated as individuals, with tailored support, career guidance, and real-world opportunities built into their learning journey.

Lifelong learning for adults
Education in Rotherham doesn’t stop at 18. For working adults, returners, and career-changers, there are excellent opportunities to reskill, upskill, or simply explore something new. Whether it’s a part-time evening class, a Level 3 qualification, or an Access to Higher Education course, Rotherham makes adult learning accessible, affordable, and achievable.
Not only that, University Centre Rotherham, in the heart of Rotherham town, was built to ensure the local community has immediate access to Higher Education courses. The range of courses available would suit anyone looking to build their skills, retrain and develop their career to boost their earning potential and get that dream job paving the way for personal and professional fulfilment.
Courses range from HNCs to HNDs, Higher Technical Qualifications (many of which are supported and endorsed in partnership with the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology) and Foundation Degrees and Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships. We also offer traditional degrees and a Masters option too.
This year the University Centre has launched a new flexible approach to learning through HN Flex options. These offer students the chance to pick and choose modules to suit their needs in the area of their choice. For more information about any of these courses, please contact ucr@rotherham.ac.uk or visit our understanding Higher Education qualifications page which gives you a brief overview of each course so you can see what is right for you!
