This week we are hosting taster days at each of our Colleges across the RNN Group and not only will prospective students be finding out and experiencing their chosen subject in advance of joining College in September, unknowingly they will also be developing Power Skills. 

Power skills enable people to communicate effectively, adapt to change, collaborate with others, solve complex problems and lead with confidence. As these skills are transferable across industries, professions and life situations, they have become some of the most valuable capabilities an individual can develop.

In an increasingly digital world shaped by technological advancements, automation and artificial intelligence, technical expertise alone is no longer enough to guarantee success. While technical skills may help individuals secure employment, it is often the human-centred abilities known as power skills that drive long-term career progression, effective leadership and personal fulfilment.

What are Power Skills?

Power skills are interpersonal and behavioural competencies that influence how people work, interact and achieve their goals. Previously referred to as “soft skills”, the term “power skills” better reflects their significant impact on performance and success.

Stepping outside of your comfort zone can help develop adaptability, confidence and problem-solving abilities and our learners are certainly doing that this week in their taster sessions.

Professional development programmes, coaching, mentoring and training opportunities can support the ongoing development of power skills. RNN Group celebrated an octogenarian gaining his GCSE Maths last year!
