Parents and Carers of RNN Young Learners….. It’s Your Turn!

RNN Group provides academic courses at a variety of levels for all ages and needs of learners across the communities it serves.

We recognise that students succeed when three things are in place:

  1. The student is motivated to successfully complete their course and succeed which in includes great attendance and completing all necessary work and assignments.
  2. Our teachers provide inspiring lessons and give amazing academic support to learners during the college year ensuring that they feel confident to achieve in their subject.
  3. Parents, carers and families support their learner with their educational journey and course choice as well as encourage them to attend and work hard to achieve and succeed.

Next week, our Colleges across the RNN Group are having New Parents and Carers Information Evenings to welcome parents into their young persons college to come along and find out more to help their young person achieve and succeed.

A group of people listening to the Director of Campus speak at North Notts College

This evening will consist of a presentation, Q&A and chance to speak with staff and other parents. We will provide a valuable opportunity for you to learn more about our college, expectations and behaviours of your young person and the various activities and programmes your young person can be engaged in throughout the year.

We will also cover important information regarding safeguarding, event updates, and how you can support your young person’s learning journey at home.

In addition to presentations from our teaching staff, there will be a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and to meet with other parents and carers over some light refreshments.

North Notts College: Parents and Carers Event
Tuesday 16th September, 5pm – 7pm

Rotherham College: Parents and Carers Event
Wednesday 17th September, 3:30pm – 5:30pm or 6pm – 8pm
(Both sessions being held at the University Centre Rotherham)

Dearne Valley College: Parents and Carers Event
Thursday 18th September, 5pm – 7pm

We recognise that for many parents this is a hard transition. Your level of involvement becomes much less as learners manage academics and personal life independently compared to school when parents are highly involved with regular parent-teacher meetings, daily homework checks, constant communication with teachers, and participation in school activities.

We will be offering you dates and activities throughout the year to be involved in your young person’s educational journey.

We know that at College responsibility shifts to the student from the parent to manage their educational journey. We want parents to be prepared and have the knowledge to support their learners move to a more independent step.

We will be letting you know what communication channels are open to parents to help support your young person in this new journey as well as you as a parent of a new college student.

If you have not able to book on to these events as yet, please email marketing@rnngroup.ac.uk with your young person’s name and College (Rotherham College, North Notts College or Dearne Valley College)  and we will book you on.

We look forward to seeing you next week!
