Supporting Future Engineering Talent During National Apprenticeships Week
As we celebrate National Apprenticeships Week, now is the perfect time for engineering employers to invest in the next generation of skilled professionals and shape the future of their workforce.
At RNN Group, weโre working with Level 1 and Level 2 Fabrication and Welding students across South Yorkshire who are actively seeking apprenticeship opportunities with local engineering employers.
With a new cohort of apprentices starting this March at our Rotherham College, this is an ideal opportunity to engage early and get ahead of the summer recruitment rush.
Building industry-ready skills
Our Fabrication and Welding learners are developing strong, practical skills aligned to real workplace expectations, including:
- Fabrication and welding techniques
- Health and safety and effective workshop practice
- Confidently working from engineering drawings

The images shared alongside this blog showcase our learners and examples of their practical work, offering a snapshot of the high standards of training delivered at RNN Group.

Level 2 Welded Test Piece: Demonstrating real capability
Several of our Level 2 learners have recently completed their welded test piece as part of their Level 2 Certificate. This assessment combines multiple welding techniques into one practical task, including:
- A T-Fillet weld
- A Single V-Butt weld
- An Outside Corner weld
The images feature work completed by Jack, Kai, Alfie, Blake and Finley, demonstrating both technical ability and attention to detail, and reflecting the standard expected within the engineering industry.

โI recently spent time in our Rotherham College engineering department meeting the Level 2 Fabrication and Welding learners whoโve expressed a real interest in progressing into an apprenticeship. The standard of their practical work genuinely impressed me – especially considering these lads have only been on programme since September.
These learners are already showing the skills, attitude, and commitment needed to step into the responsibilities of a job, and I truly believe many of them are apprenticeship-ready.
Businesses across the sector need new talent, and the only way weโll keep engineering motoring along is by passing down skills, knowledge, and experience to these hungry young people who are ready to learn and contribute.โ
